Say goodbye to joint pain and hello to renewed mobility with PRP joint injections.

At The Pur Health, we offer Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy as a natural, non-surgical solution to support joint healing and pain relief. Using your body’s own regenerative properties, PRP treatments help restore function and get you back to living life to the fullest.

What are PRP Joint Injections?

PRP therapy uses the healing properties of your own blood to repair and regenerate damaged tissues. By isolating and concentrating platelets rich in growth factors, PRP injections target inflammation, promote cell repair, and enhance joint health.

Conditions Treated with PRP Joint Therapy

Conditions Treated with PRP Joint Therapy

Conditions Treated with PRP Joint Therapy

  • Osteoarthritis: PRP reduces pain and inflammation in joints like the knees, hips, and shoulders.
  • Tendonitis: Aids recovery from inflammation in tendons such as the Achilles or elbow.
  • Ligament Injuries: Promotes healing in sprains or minor ligament tears.
  • Chronic Joint Pain: Provides relief for lingering discomfort and stiffness.
How PRP Therapy Works

How PRP Therapy Works

  1. 1.Blood Collection: A small sample of your blood is drawn.
  2. 2.Platelet Processing: The blood is spun in a centrifuge to concentrate platelets rich in healing factors.
  3. 3.Injection: The PRP solution is precisely injected into the affected joint to stimulate tissue repair.

This natural process enhances the body’s ability to heal itself, reducing pain and improving function over time.

What is PRP therapy used for?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is made from a small sample of your own blood. The blood is spun to concentrate the platelets, and the plasma is injected into the area being treated.

At The Pur Health, Dr. Munib uses PRP for joint and tendon pain. PRP for the face, under-eyes and hair is offered at our sister practice, Spectrum Skin Clinic, with the same physician.

Joints

Knee, hip and shoulder pain from early to moderate arthritis.

Tendons

Tennis and golfer's elbow, Achilles, rotator cuff and plantar fascia pain that has lasted months.

Face and hair

PRP and Selphyl PRFM for skin and hair are done at Spectrum Skin Clinic.

What happens at a PRP injection visit

1. Review

Dr. Munib examines the joint, reviews your history, medicines and any X-rays or MRI, and confirms PRP is a reasonable option.

2. Blood draw

A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm, like a routine blood test.

3. Preparation

The blood is spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. This takes a few minutes.

4. Injection

The skin is cleaned and the PRP is injected into the joint or tendon. Most visits take 45 minutes to an hour in total.

PRP recovery and aftercare

Most people walk out and return to normal daily activity the same day or the next. The injected area is often sorer for a few days, and sometimes for a week or two, before it settles.

  • Plan a lighter few days and avoid hard workouts until Dr. Munib clears you
  • Ice and acetaminophen (Tylenol) are usually fine for soreness; ask before taking anti-inflammatory pain relievers
  • Physical therapy or a home exercise plan continues alongside the injection
  • Benefit, if it comes, builds over several weeks rather than right away

Call us right away if the area becomes hot, red and more swollen, or you develop a fever, as these can be signs of infection.

PRP, steroid or gel injections: how they differ

Steroid (cortisone)

Calms pain and swelling quickly. The effect often fades within weeks to months, and repeated shots are limited.

Hyaluronic acid (gel)

Used for knee arthritis to add lubrication. Benefit varies from person to person.

PRP

Made from your own blood. Slower to work, and results are mixed. Dr. Munib explains where it fits for your joint.

How much does PRP cost in Orange County?

PRP for joints and tendons is usually self-pay, because most insurance plans, including Medicare, do not cover it. HSA and FSA cards are accepted.

The price of the injection is shown in the booking window before you book, and Dr. Munib confirms the plan and total cost before anything is done.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Questions are welcome. Our team is happy to help before you book.

Call (949) 647-5234

Is PRP therapy painful?

The blood draw feels like a routine blood test, and the injection causes pressure and some discomfort for a short time. The area is often sore for a few days afterward.

How long does a PRP appointment take?

Most visits take 45 minutes to an hour, including the exam, blood draw, preparation and injection.

Can I drive home after a PRP injection?

Most people can, since no sedation is used. If a knee or ankle is very sore, it is easier to have someone drive you.

Can I take ibuprofen after PRP?

Ask Dr. Munib before taking ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory pain relievers around the injection. Acetaminophen and ice are usually used for soreness instead.

Is PRP covered by insurance?

Usually not for joints or tendons, so it is self-pay. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and the price is shown in the booking window before you book.

Do you offer PRP facials or PRP for hair?

Yes, at our sister practice, Spectrum Skin Clinic, with Sabeen Munib M.D. The Pur Health focuses on PRP for joint and tendon pain.
