How GLP-1 weight loss works at The Pur Health
GLP-1 medicines work on the hormones that control appetite and fullness. They are prescription medicines that need a proper medical review, careful dosing and follow-up, which is how Dr. Munib prescribes them.
A full review first
Your health history, medications, labs and weight history, before anything is prescribed.
Start low, go slow
You begin on the lowest dose. It goes up slowly, based on how you feel.
Follow-up visits
Visits track your weight, appetite and side effects, and adjust the dose.
More than the medicine
Sleep, protein, muscle, blood sugar and blood pressure are worked on alongside the medication.
Medical weight loss in Orange County: who we help
Midlife and menopause weight gain
Weight treatment can be planned together with hormone care, at the same practice.
Prediabetes, insulin resistance and PCOS
Losing 5 to 10 percent of your weight can improve blood sugar. Labs are checked and followed.
Sleep apnea and high blood pressure
Zepbound is FDA-approved for moderate to severe sleep apnea in adults with obesity. Blood pressure is checked at every follow-up.
Restarting after a GLP-1
If you stopped and regained, Dr. Munib plans a safe restart at a low dose.
Semaglutide and tirzepatide: Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound and Mounjaro
Semaglutide: Wegovy and Ozempic
Made by Novo Nordisk. Semaglutide works on GLP-1, the hormone that tells your brain you are full and slows how fast your stomach empties. Wegovy is the version FDA-approved for chronic weight management; Ozempic is the same medicine, FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes.

Made by Eli Lilly, as a once-weekly injection. Tirzepatide works on two appetite hormones, GLP-1 and GIP. Zepbound is the version FDA-approved for chronic weight management; Mounjaro is the same medicine, FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes.
Read more → about Tirzepatide: Zepbound and MounjaroWhich one fits depends on your health history, how you tolerate it and your coverage. Dr. Munib helps you choose.
Are you a candidate?
GLP-1 medication may fit if your BMI is 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol, and diet and exercise alone have not been enough.
- Not for you if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2
- Not during pregnancy, or if you are planning a pregnancy
- A history of pancreatitis needs a review with Dr. Munib first
Side effects and what helps
Nausea, fullness and constipation are common in the first weeks and after a dose increase. They usually settle. Smaller meals and enough protein help, and Dr. Munib adjusts the dose if they do not.
How long it takes, and what happens if you stop
The dose starts low and goes up every 4 weeks, so weight loss builds over months, not days. Many people notice less hunger in the first weeks. Most people who stop regain much of the weight within a year, so the long-term plan is made with Dr. Munib from the start.
- Protein at every meal and strength training help protect muscle
- Hair shedding can happen with weight loss, more often in women; tell us if you notice it
- Tell your surgeon you take a GLP-1 before any procedure with sedation
- Zepbound and Mounjaro can make birth control pills less reliable for a few weeks after starting and after each dose increase
Brand-name only
The Pur Health prescribes only FDA-approved, brand-name GLP-1 medication: Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound and Mounjaro, filled by licensed pharmacies. We do not offer compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide.
Body composition scan and nutrition counseling
Body composition scan
A quick scan on a body composition scale estimates body fat, muscle, water, bone mass and the calories you burn at rest, so progress is measured by more than weight. It is not used during pregnancy or with a pacemaker or other implanted device.
